Pollyanna Brewing Company: More Than a Pint, It's a Place to Belong
How one St. Charles brewery built a business around beer, community, and giving back
St. Charles, IL
When you sit down with Ryan from Pollyanna Brewing Company, it doesn't take long to realize he isn't just talking about beer. He's talking about people, community, and creating places where neighbors can gather.
Who Is Ryan, and How Did Pollyanna Start?
Ryan earned both his finance degree and MBA from Northern Illinois University and has spent nearly 20 years in the St. Charles area with his wife and their two sons. While his professional background is rooted in corporate finance, he has always had an entrepreneurial streak and a desire to build something of his own.
That opportunity came in 2013 when he and several partners launched Pollyanna Brewing Company during the rapid growth of the craft beer industry. From the beginning, they established three guiding principles that still drive the business today: make great beer, create memorable experiences, and give back to the communities they serve.
What Can You Do at Pollyanna's Taprooms?
What started as a small brewery has grown into a destination where friends gather, families celebrate milestones, and neighbors connect. Pollyanna's taprooms feature live music every weekend, food trucks throughout the year, trivia nights, Singo, pet-friendly patios, and private event spaces. Whether guests stop in for a craft beer, a cocktail from the distillery, or an evening with friends, Ryan wants them to feel welcome.
Has Pollyanna's Beer Won Any Awards?
While Pollyanna has earned 22 national and international awards for its beer and spirits, Ryan is quick to point out that the company's greatest asset is its people.
"Our team creates the experience," he says.
"They're the reason guests keep coming back."
What Is Blues & Brews?
That focus on community is also what inspired Blues & Brews, a festival Ryan had hoped to bring to St. Charles shortly after opening the brewery's St. Charles location in 2019. Although the pandemic delayed those plans, the idea never went away.
Last year, Blues & Brews finally became a reality. Set along the Fox River, the event brings together all of the St. Charles breweries, local restaurants, live blues and southern rock music, and hundreds of community members for a day that celebrates everything that makes St. Charles special.
How Does Blues & Brews Give Back to the Community?
The festival also benefits Big Hearts of Fox Valley, a local nonprofit serving students and families in District 303. For Ryan, partnering with an organization that directly impacts local children made perfect sense.
At the end of the day, that's what Pollyanna has always been about. Yes, there is great beer. But more importantly, there are great people, meaningful connections, and a commitment to making the community stronger than it was yesterday.
